2019 Balverne Zinfandel

This Russian River Zinfandel can only be described as an enigma in a glass, as it presents itself as a full-bodied red wine only to finish with the smooth elegance of a lighter wine. On the nose delicious notes of berry compote and cinnamon swirl in the glass with underlining hints of sandalwood and redwood bark. On the palate top notes of smoked hazelnuts are complimented by tart cranberry juice and a lingering of pink peppercorn on the finish.

$60 bottle at a $30 price point, my new daily drinker

Unexpectedly solid bottle of wine. The expectation from Notre Vue in general is high because we have had so many fantastic wines, but as a Zinfandel I didn’t have super high expectations. They usually are on the lighter side, middle of the road wines. This has more body than expected and is a fantastic balance of boldness, body, and versatility. It is still on the lighter side but bolder than expected.

A lovely Zinfandel. It’s a very well balanced wine, embodying just the right amount of tart cranberry & jammy fruit with a subtle peppery finish. These characteristics make this Zinfandel very approachable, pairing well with a variety of meals - steak, roasted meats & veggies, pasta with red sauce, etc. Cheers!

I love it! With a beautiful color and notes of summer fruit and baking spice, this is a delicious zinfandel.
