Notre Vue Vineyard

(Formerly known as Windsor Oaks Vineyard)

Notre Vue Vineyards have always been a passion; a journey the owners Bob and Renee Stein wanted to share. For 30 years Notre Vue Vineyards have supplied grapes to some of the Industries high end wineries.

The Vineyards objective has been and will continue to be, to explore the full potential of the Estate grapes by selling them to highly regarded wineries for their own fine wines and by producing small lots of hand crafted wines on the property. The Notre Vue Estate Winery and Balverne Wines are sister operation that source grapes from the Vineyards. We look forward to you joining us on this exciting journey.

Notre Vue Vineyard takes pride in producing consistent quality winegrapes for making ultra-premium and luxury wines. Our estate Vineyards are within three of California's best known appellations or American Viticulturial Areas (AVA) for sourcing fine winegrapes:  Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Chalk Hill. The property is in Sonoma County, just south of Healdsburg in Windsor, CA. The Notre Vue Vineyard overlooks the Russian River Valley to the West as well as the Alexander Valley and the Mayacamas Mountains to the East. Our 710-acre Estate contains many diverse micro-climates, including numerous soil and slope combinations. Our grapes develop attributes derived from clone/rootstock differences and our viticurltural practices as well as the characteristics of these distinct terroirs.

Approximately 350 acres are dedicated to "Forever Wild Open Space". The Vineyards of 210 acres are planted with sixteen different varieties of grapes. The result is a long-standing tradition of growing grapes to the standards of winemakers for top-tier wineries that in turn produce highly rated and awarded wines.

Rare Estate Vineyards

Notre Vue Vineyard has world-class viticultural potential for producing outstanding winegrape characteristics from low yielding soils. The property is large, allowing for block spacing in varying terroirs that contribute to developing different grape attributes. Notre Vue Vineyard is the cumulation of viticultural and winemaking experts who worked together over many years, sparing no expense, for a common propose of creating Vineyards producing the finest quality fruit. The ownership and management of Notre Vue Vineyard has focused and invested in quality of grapes available for sourcing.

The mixture of carefully planted Vineyards in combined the significant 'Forever Wild' acreage of beautiful ancient oak trees and wilderness creates an inspirational environment. Panoramic views of Notre Vue Vineyard and the surrounding wine country contributes the attractiveness.

Notre Vue Vineyard has a reputative for producing consistent balanced fruit from its premier viticultural location and highly diverse terroir. The test of a vineyard is the grape quality reflected in wines made from its fruit. Numerous outstanding wineries source our 16 different grape varietals. Exceptional vineyard-designated wines are created as well as wines with countless industry accolades.

Under the supervision of Estate Viticulturalist Patrick Hamilton, Notre Vue Vineyard is flourishing, producing crop after crop of exceptional quality. Vines are sustainably-farmed throughout the season by Guadalupe Ruiz, Vineyard Supervisor for nearly 40 years, and his dedicated crew, most of whom have been with Notre Vue Vineyard for many years.

Our estate Vineyards are situated within three of California’s most respected growing appellations (AVA): Russian River ValleyChalk Hill, and the encompassing Sonoma Coast. Years of meticulous analysis helped to pinpoint 210 acres within the larger 710-acre Estate plant 52 unique vineyard blocks. Each block was developed to match its highest potential by considering all the variables: varietal, rootstock, clone, microclimate, soil, elevation, and aspect, to name a few.

The lower blocks of the Notre Vue Vineyard are influenced by the nearby Russian River and Pacific Ocean. Here, the deep, alluvial, cobbled-clay soils typical of the Russian River benchlands and the cooling effect of coastal fog provide perfect growing conditions, particularly for Chardonnay, Muscat Canelli, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc.

As the elevation of the estate rises to nearly 800 feet above sea level, the soil profiles reflect their mountainous origins, derived from quartzite and volcanic ash deposited over the centuries by eruptions of Mt. St. Helena to the east. The upper sections of the property are part of Chalk Hill with embedded volcanic stones in the decomposed volcanic soils. These blocks tend to enjoy more sunshine and warmer temperatures, moderated by regular breezes from the west, making them ideally suited to later ripening varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto, Grenache, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Sangiovese, and Syrah.

Cab Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Syrah, and Zinfandel are grown in both upper and lower terrain blocks. With the subtle differences in fruit forward characteristics shown by wines made from lower elevation grapes and more structured and complexity wines typical achieved from higher elevation grapes that can exerience longer hang times.

A significant part of the estate is given over to open space, in participation with the Sonoma County Open Space District. This land is left in its natural state and designated Forever Wild. It forms a natural greenbelt and riparian corridor and provides a home for an abundance of native flora and fauna. Sightings of turkeys and rabbits are common. Water fowel, bobcats, and foxes are also observed. The majestic red tail hawk, prominently featured on the Balverne labels, flies sentry over the vineyards and is a constant reminder of the importance of ecological diversity on the Estate.
